Nayagarh Chhena Poda – Odisha Famous Sweet

Chhena Poda is one of the most famous traditional sweets from Odisha, deeply connected with the culture and heritage of Nayagarh and Puri district.

According to traditional history, this unique baked sweet was first invented by the renowned sweet maker Sudarsan Sahu. During that time, Nayagarh and Khurda were part of the larger Puri district. After preparing this special sweet, Sudarsan Sahu offered it as Prasad (Bhog) to Jagannath at the sacred Jagannath Temple.

After the offering, the temple priests tasted the sweet as Prasad and were amazed by its rich and unique flavor. From that day onward, Chhena Poda became a favorite sweet among the priests and devotees of Puri. Gradually, it became widely popular across Nayagarh and Puri districts. Even today, this traditional sweet holds a special place during festivals, family gatherings, and traditional Brahmin feasts in these regions.

Over time, many shops have introduced different modern varieties of Chhena Poda. However, we proudly continue to follow the authentic traditional method without unnecessary experimentation. Our focus is to preserve the original taste and heritage of this classic sweet.

Unlike many modern methods, our Chhena Poda is not baked on gas. Instead, it is carefully prepared using traditional coal heat and sal leaves, following the same preparation style used in Nayagarh. This traditional process gives the sweet its signature smoky aroma, caramelized crust, and rich flavor.
